I have spoken at a number of conferences and events on SAP and Open Source technologies, especially business messaging and integration:

I wrote "Programming Jabber: Extending XML Messaging" for O'Reilly Media, which was published in 2002, and still the top selling book on Jabber (XMPP) at Amazon. I also co-wrote "Google Pocket Guide" for O'Reilly Media, published in 2003.

I have written a number of articles on SAP and Open Source technologies, including Jabber, Really Simple Syndication (RSS), the Resource Description Framework (RDF), and Representational State Transfer (REST). The articles have appeared on the SAP Developer Network, the O'Reilly Network, and on my own website.

Responsible for the design, coding and delivery of all internal and external integration points for the Global Travel & Expenses system, with special emphasis on diverse credit card format handling across four continents, and high-throughput master and transactional data management and processing.

Specialist support of a Vendor Control system running on SAP Business Connector and back-ended by custom and standard code in the SAP MM-PUR module.

Oct 2009 - Sep 2010: IS Project Manager and Technical Specialist at AstraZeneca

IS Project Manager with primary responsibility for rollout of Global Travel & Expenses system, managing all aspects of technical direction, development, integration and deployment of major system landscape and components, as well as standard management and budget activities. Lead direction on, and implementation of integration between multiple SAP, Infor, Siebel and Peoplesoft systems. Successfully deployed to Western & Eastern Europe, Russia & the Baltics, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and Latin America.

Dec 2005 - Mar 2009: Senior Technical Architect / Developer and SAP Specialist at AstraZeneca

Lead designer and developer of integration between Infor Expense Management (XM) software and various SAP, Siebel and Peoplesoft systems, supporting over 25,000 expense claimants and approvers across Europe and North America.

Designed and implemented a major web-services-based integration hub between Ariba Buyer, IXOS document management, and multiple SAP backend systems. The hub, based on an SAP ECC6 platform, handles realtime and batch style integration, in both directions, and HTTP is used as the application protocol. Representational State Transfer (REST) was used as a guiding architectural style. The hub handles tens of thousands of transactions per day.

Lead developer on support & enhancements for custom Purchase-to-Pay (P2P) invoice automation system built inside R/3 using Workflow, IXOS ArchiveLink, FI, MM and custom code that handles data validation, vendor derivation, PO matching & allocation, and complex tax code derivation for 20+ countries in Europe.

Lead designer and developer on SAP web-based application for Europe-wide sales force staff to arrange payments for doctors' activities.

Provided ongoing consulting on Web, Portal, Internet, XI/PI, Scanning & OCR technologies.

2000-2001 & 2001-2005: Technical Architect at Deluxe Media Services

Provided technical leadership & management on projects (such as for SAP EP, CRM and BI) and in support. Managed project that designed and built Internet application platform and integrated it with SAP R/3, from hardware installation to custom browser features. Led development projects building custom Internet applications back-ended by SAP, managing a virtual team of developers across different timezones and world locations.

Designed and built various infrastructure components (directory services and tools, worldwide extensible system monitor and alert system). Responsible for interfacing SAP with the rest of the world. Technical analysis and assistance for upgrades (most recent 4.6 to Enterprise).

Project managed and technically led major installations, upgrades and maintenance of NetWeaver components (BI, IPC, CRM, J2EE tools, etc).

2001-2001: Sabbatical to research and write "Programming Jabber"

I spent eight months planning, researching and writing the book "Programming Jabber: Extending XML Messaging" for O'Reilly Media. Jabber is also referred to as XMPP - the eXtensible Messaging and Presence Protocol.

1996-1997: Technical Team Member at SAP in Walldorf

I was a member of the Technical Team in the IS-Oil development group at SAP in Walldorf, supporting the upstream and downstream development efforts.

1996-1996: Basis Consultant / Developer at Carnaud Metalbox

I provided hands-on consultancy on the first and second (rollout) implementation of R/3.

1995-1996: Basis Trainer for SAP UK

Delivered Basis training courses at SAP UK's training centres. Received highly rated evaluation on all courses given. Following courses given: BC010 (SAP System Architecture), BC020 (SAP System Administration), BC110 (Correction and Transport System).

1995-1995: Basis Consultant at IBM USA

Provided Basis consultancy on R/3 installation; advised on planning large world-wide R/3 implementation. Focused on capacity planning, logical and physical placement of systems and data, and interfacing. Also wrote and delivered basis architecture training to internal IT staff.

1994-1996: Basis Consultant at Total Oil Marine

Worked on the development of an R/3 system using the IS-Oil upstream module under Unix and Oracle. Responsible for setting up the complete Basis system and all aspects of technical troubleshooting.

Wrote technical standards for many aspects of R/3 Basis for both the project and subsequent rollout. Manually migrated pre-releases of IS-Oil between 2.1 systems at different releases and installed IS-Oil over a heavily modified system.

1991-1994: Basis Consultant / Developer at Deutsche Telekom

Worked in the technical team supporting a large scale multi-SAP system development based in Euskirchen / Bonn. Major role in installation, maintenance, support and migration of systems in an environment across multiple IMS and CICS hosts (10 parallel SAP R/2 production systems at 5.0 and two production systems at 4.3, along with 12 development and test systems).

1987-1991: DB Analyst / Developer at Esso Petroleum Company UK

Many roles in SAP database support, SAP development and support teams in SAP implementation projects with R/2 versions 4.1 and 4.3.
